VOCABULARY

Consumption: the goods and services produced have been used up.

Public Comsumption: used in a command economy when the government
decides things in the public’s name.

Consumer: anyone who buys /uses products or services.

Consumerism: is used to help people make wise decisions about the
goods the buy. It also influence sbusinesses to produce better goods.

Ombudsman: a person in a company (or organization designed to help
consumers) that deals with consumer complaints.

CONSUMER CONCERNS

ADVERTISING: consumers want advertising to be more accurate and
reliable so they know exactly what they’re buying.

GRADING: grading is needed so consumers know the quality of the
product they’re buying.

GUARANTEES: guarantees protect the consumer from products that don’t
work properly.

CONSUMER PROTECTION

SAFETY: consumers must be protected against goods that are dangerous or hazardous.

TO BE INFORMED: consumers must be able to rely on information given
by manufacturers. In other words, advertising claims must be true. Deceptive claims are known as "false advertising."

CHOICE: manufacturers should provide choice in the goods and
services available.

TO BE HEARD: consumers’ concerns must be listened to and
addressed.
