Timeline of the Industrial Revolution
 
 



 
1770 - the  approximate start of the Industrial Revolution 1773 (Dec. 16) The Boston Tea Party 1775 (Feb. 22) The first joint stock manufacturing company is founded. 1786 - Printers in Philadelpiha form the first formal strike in the U.S.A.  1798 - Eli Whitney introduces interchangeable parts of the production of firearms.

 
1811 - Construction of the National Road; it helps settlers to move west and farm products move east. 1825 (Oct. 26) - The Erie Canal is opened, launching the eera of canal building. 1828 (July 14) - Ground-breaking for the Baltimore/Ohio Railroad. This launches the "age of railroads" in U.S.A. 1848 (Jan. 24) - John Sutter discovers gold in California. 1849 - The gold rush begins.

 
1867 -  an oil refining business becomes the Standard Oil Company. 1869 (May 10) - The first ranscontinental railroad is finished, linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. 1870 - 300 000 workers belong to American unions. 1882 (Jan. 2) - Standard Oil Company is organized with $70 million in capital. 1886 (Dec. 8) - The American Federation of Labor is organized.

 
1896 (June 4) - First autmobile finished  by Henry Ford. 1901 - the first American corporation achieves sales of $1 billion. 1908 - the first Model T is built, priced at $850. 1913 - Ford sets up the first auto assembly line. 1924 - The ten millionth Model T is built.

 
1929 - Black Tuesday, the stock market crashes, starting the Great Depression. 1932 - 13 million Americans are unemployed. 1936-37 -  Industrial unrest; about 500 000 workers quit their jobs.
